Icing

Icing lessens the swelling of muscles after exercise. The benefits of icing are commonly understood in sports medicine and physical therapy. The embouchure muscles reap the same benefits as any others in the body when they are iced after a workout.

Simple method for icing the trumpet embouchure:
1. Wrap an ice cube in a thin cloth or paper towel.
2. Hold the ice on the embouchure.
3. Change locations on the embouchure until the entire area has been iced.

When the ice cube melts, the embouchure has normally been cooled enough. Extremely tired muscles may benefit from more icing.
